Connecticut native Scott Nelson uses a blend
of wire and natural materials to create designs which are as unique as the objects they represent. Born and raised in the Litchfield hills, Scott spent much of his youth camping and hiking in the wilderness, and it is this appreciation for nature which still inspires him. Working solely with twisted wire (no soldering or welding) results in truly organic art forms which are deceptively complex.
The wire medium is an interesting blend of engineering and suggestion where solid surfaces are often represented by the absence of matter. Clean lines and a minimalist approach to each sculpture requires forethought into the future final twist of each wire. For example, a wire cricket starts out as a 10ft length of wire, cut into 12 equal pieces.
The paper medium affords explorations into layers and mosaics of color and shape.
